A home inspector's license qualifies a person to evaluate a home's systems and report their condition. Illinois licenses home inspectors, and that license is the credential behind most inspection companies. It is a meaningful one: it authorizes a trained set of eyes to walk a house system by system and describe what is found.
A Professional Engineer carries a second, different qualification. A P.E. is an engineer licensed by the state, and the standard path to that license runs through an accredited engineering degree, supervised engineering experience, rigorous examinations, and state licensure. The credential exists so the public can identify engineers who have completed that path.
The honest way to frame the combination is this: an inspection identifies conditions, and engineering training helps judge which structural findings deserve a closer look. That is the difference, stated without inflation.

An inspection, not an engineering study
A home inspection is not an engineering study, and it is not a code compliance audit. It evaluates the visible and accessible condition of the home on the day of inspection. No inspection, by anyone, can see inside a wall or beneath a slab.
IRJ sells home inspections. Islam does not provide engineering design, stamped documents, or repairs, and nothing on this page is an offer of them. When a finding calls for a licensed contractor or a formal engineering study, he says so plainly, so you know the next step instead of a guess.
